課程概述

In the spring semester, we will continue focusing on understanding the topic of academic compositions. We will be discussing the following topics (among others)
What makes strong topic sentences &strong* and what makes weak topic sentences &weak*
What makes good paragraph organization &good* and what makes poor paragraph organization &poor*
What contributes to poor idea development
What plagiarism is and why it is a problem

Examples from student writing samples will be used to illustrate strengths and weaknesses in writing compositions at this level.

In this course, students will be required to analyze samples of student writing to identify specific problems in the writing. They will compile their own writing reference book (The Writing Miscellany) as well as write paragraphs through a
process writing approach. Students must present their Writing Miscellany during the end-of-term conference with the instructor.

Grading:
preparation 650 points
participation 650 points
topic sentence journals 100 points.
Writing Miscellany 400 points.
final exam 250 points.
conference 100 points
3 compositions 900 points
